Bulk Stuff
This is the main ingredient in the salad. Could be either carbohydrates, proteins, or a combination of both. What's left over in the fridge that you can make something yummy with? Maybe some boiled eggs, or shredded chicken? Leftover baked potatoes? Look in the pantry, do you have a can of tuna? If you want a vegan option you could use chickpeas or any of your favourite beans. Drain off the liquid and give them a good mushing with a spoon or the back of a clean cup.Healthy Fat
This is what holds everything together and gives the salad a nice smooth texture. Ripe avocados are a great choice because they have a lot of nutrients in them. Use vegan mayonnaise if it is available. If using regular mayonnaise then make sure it is properly refrigerated at all times. If mayo, avocados, or plain yogurt are not available, then a very small spoon of olive oil should help mix everything together. But if the canned food was already in oil, then no need to add any more oil after draining it.Veggie Yummies
This is the fun part of making a salad. You can add any vegetable you like to your salad. Some people even use fruits. There are no limits to your creation. If it has vitamins and good texture and can be eaten raw, then go for it! Onions, carrots, peas, celery, basil, arugula, bell peppers, apples, raisins, etc. You don't need too much of any ingredient. Small amounts of whatever is available should make a healthy yummy salad.
Unique Flavour
This is where you can really customize the salad and make it as unique as you. The options of things you can use are endless, go with what's available at home. Things like: salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, mustard, vinegar, maple syrup, etc. Be careful with all of these ingredients, accidentally adding too much of anything or adding too many things can ruin all of your hard work. After you have everything mixed up then you're ready to enjoy the fruits of your labour! Keep the salad in the fridge until you're ready to eat.
